The Argentinian city of Santa Fe will host the 2026 South American Games

This decision was made by the ODESUR General Assembly this past Saturday, March 25th. The organization of the event contemplates having venues in Rosario and Rafaela.

It’s been made official. The thirteenth version of the South American Games has confirmed its host for the 2026 version. The successor of Asunción 2022 will be no other than the Argentinian city of Santa Fe, located 476 km to the north of the capital, Buenos Aires.

The confirmation arrived this past Saturday, March 25th, during the Organización Deportiva Sudamericana (South American Sports Organization, ODESUR) General Assembly, which took place in Buenos Aires. The event organizers will also include venues in Rosario and Rafaela, two nearby cities from Santa Fe.

Different regional authorities attended this ceremony, among which we can mention the Governor of Santa Fe, Omar Perotti, and the Mayor of Rosario Pablo Javkin.

On this occasion, Governor Omar Perotti commented that “it’s an honor and a great commitment by the province because of its sports history, its organizational capacity, to complete these three Games in our province. We’re doing this together because we wish to increase our sports base and the available infrastructure.”

Mayor Javkin showed his gratitude for the decision, noting that “I want to thank ODESUR authorities, represented by its president Carmilo Pérez López Moreira, along with the Argentine Olympic Committee, for once again choosing Rosario, along with Santa Fe y Rafaela, as the host for the South American Games, which will show a province united thanks to sports.”

This designation puts Rosario under the spotlight of continental sports again, reassuring its position as a sports capital in Argentina and South America, while becoming the first city ever to host three of the most important ODESUR events: the South American Beach Games (2019), the Youth South American Games (2022), and the South American Games (2026).

It’s not the first time this area of Argentina has received the regional event. In 1982, Rosario hosted the Southern Cross Games, which is the previous name of what we know today as the South American Games. Additionally, the event is returning to Argentina after 20 years of the 2006 edition, organized by Buenos Aires.

The ODESUR General Assembly also had the goal of designating a new Executive Board. Miguel Ángel Mujica, president of the Chilean Olympic Committee and vice president of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, will be part of that board as the general secretary, which the president of the organization confirmed.

ABOUT THE SOUTH AMERICAN GAMES

This event will gather more than 7 thousand athletes representing the 15 countries that are part of ODESUR: Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Curazao, Ecuador, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

In total, it’ll be 38 sports and 52 disciplines that will take place in Santa Fe 2026, many of which will give quota to classify for the Barranquilla 2027 Pan American Games.
