Santiago 2023 and Laguna Los Morros oficialized a water skiing venue use agreement for the Pan American Games

The space, located in the San Bernardo district, will again receive a multisport event after the 2014 South American Games.

Last Monday, March 27th, “Laguna Los Morros” was officially named as the new venue for the Pan American Games, and it will be used for the development of water skiing. This lake was also the venue during the Santiago 2014 South American Games.

In a meeting attended by the Santiago 2023 Chief Executive Officer, Gianna Cunazza, the representative and part of the Laguna Los Morros owners, Waldo Miranda, signed and sealed the agreement guaranteeing the use of the space during the multisport event of the Americas.

Waldo Miranda is father of Felipe and Rodrigo, the most outstanding exponents of water skiing in our country, and he claimed to be calm about using the place during the Games.

In this sense, the entrepreneur ensured that “in terms of athletes, this is a minor event for us. We’re not expecting more than 40 competitors. We previously had certain Pan American sports and even World championships, with more than 100 people in competition, but this Games are something different. We must show different things to the world. Water skiing is one of the sports that has been faster prepared for the event; we could have the competition tomorrow.”

LAGUNA LOS MORROS DETAILS

This place is located 25 kilometers at the south of the center of Santiago, specifically in the San Bernardo district, and it’s characterized for being an artificial lagoon. It was built from zero in 1995 by Waldo Miranda, who always had in mind fostering sports for his sons.

With a total surface that exceeds 120,000 square meters, the lagoon had certain particularities that made it a privileged precinct to practice water skiing. “It doesn’t matter at what time you go there (morning, evening or night) the lagoon is a mirror; that is because it was built, by accident, diagonally to the direction  in which the wind blows and the water doesn’t move. And Santiago is a windy city,” indicated Waldo Miranda.

This place is not just a lagoon, but also Miranda's family home. Waldo, father of the athletes, shares the propriety of the precinct with his sons Felipe and Rodrigo. Even when it’s a private property, the precinct has free access for the general public.
