Get to know “Gana Santiago,” the program that will move the capital city before the start of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games

The initiative, promoted by the Regional Government, has the support of the Ministry of Sports, the Santiago 2023 Corporation, and the 52 districts from the Metropolitan Region.

The governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego, along with the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, and several authorities and outstanding athletes officially launched the “Gana Santiago” program. This is an initiative from the Santiago Government to embellish the city and prepare it for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games that will be carried out in the capital between next October and November.

The initiative considers the development of 620 sport activations and the participation of more than 50 thousand people from the 52 districts from the Metropolitan Region. ‘Gana Santiago’ seeks to promote a sports culture among the citizens, and to value the city as a brand and venue of great events, and amazing tourist attractions. Among the activities there will be workshops, tournaments, fairs, races, cycling events, classes, forums, training, and we’re going to break a Guinness Record:  to create the biggest human bicycle.

GOVERNOR CLAUDIO ORREGO: “THE GAMES ARE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND CHALLENGE”

The regional governor, Claudio Orrego, indicated that Santiago is going to live the main sports festival of its history. “And like every festival, this is a great opportunity and challenge. We can demonstrate to the world that we’re good hosts, so the more than 9 thousand athletes that will come and 100 thousand people that will attend have a great experience in Chile. We expect them to feel well received, that we help them in everything, for example, having a safer and cleaner city,” indicated the governor.

MINISTER JAIME PIZARRO: “WE WILL HAVE A PARTICIPATION AND INTEGRATION FESTIVAL”

In addition, the Minister of Sports and President of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Jaime Pizarro, valued ‘Gana Santiago’ as an initiative to promote physical activity. “Having sports in prior activities in every district of the Metropolitan Region is an integration message in an important and significant space. It’s an honor sharing with the athletes, so I wish them as much inspiration as they can have for the Games. There are a lot of factors that motivate us and delight us, and we’ll live a participation and integration festival,” concluded the minister.

THE SANTIAGO 2023 CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, GIANNA CUNAZZA: “WE MUST BE THE BEST HOSTS”

Moreover, the Santiago 2023 Chief Executive Officer, Gianna Cunazza, highlighted that the Games are the biggest multisport event organized in the history of Chile and it requires the participation of the citizens. “We must prepare ourselves with energy and enthusiasm for being the best host of this amazing event. This is a unique and historic opportunity to make our country a more active, healthy, and happy place. So, I invite you to come as athletes, spectators, and volunteers. I invite you to register and be part of our activities,” said Cunazza.

March 26th: Launch of “Gana Santiago.”

March - October: Painting fields with neighbors in the 13 venue districts.

April 2nd: Race 3k, 5k, and 10k - International Day of Physical Activity and Sport.

April 22nd: Bicycle Festival: Guinness Record, Parque O’Higgins.

April - June: Sport activations in 52 districts with 2 buses.

April - July: Sport Funds training for leaders.

April - September: Support kit for the development of the 52 district events.

April - September: Strategy for sponsorships for athletes.

May - June: International Conference on Sports Science

May - October: Fit Gana Santiago

June 25th: Race for the Olympic Day along with Team Chile at the Estadio Nacional.

July - October: Branding the city, Family Open Streets (CAF in Spanish), and public transport.

August - September: Bicycle event through the main sport venues of Santiago 2023.

September 24th: Time trial Inclusive Race.

December: Family Open Streets Circuit Bicycle event and Audiovisual Memory.
