After a tough, almost three-hour long match, “La Torre” (The Tower) managed to beat the Argentinian tennis player in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, and 6-2, winning the second ATP title in his career and crowning a successful South American tour after a successful participation at the Rio de Janeiro ATP 500, where he managed to get to the semifinals.

From Monday, March 6th, Nicolás Jarry will be in the 52nd spot in the world ranking. This just confirms his great present and steady growth, after being out of action for 11 months due to a doping case back in 2020.

This victory by the Santiago born player means that Chile is back at winning in their own land. The last national champion was Christian Garín, who became the champion in 2021. Overall, only three Chilean players have been able to be prophets in their own land by winning the Santiago Open (formerly played in Viña del Mar). Some of the previous winners are:

  • Fernando González (2002, 2004, 2008 y 2009).

  • Christian Garín (2021).

  • Nicolás Jarry (2023).

 WHAT’S NEXT FOR JARRY?

Once the Chile Open is over, the national player must confirm his participation in the Santiago Challenger. In case of doing so, “Nico” will be first seed at the tournament where the winner will earn 80 ATP points. In case of winning it, not only would it be a great closure for his South American tour, but he could also guarantee his return to the top 50 in the ranking after almost 4 years.
