46 tennis players from the Americas will be protagonists at the Australian Open

26 males and 20 females from seven countries will represent the continent in the first Grand Slam of the season.

Tennis doesn’t take breaks, and barely two weeks after the start of the year, the female and male circuits are already one step away from starting the first Grand Slam of the season. We are talking about the Australian Open, a championship contested on a concrete surface and that will gather the best athletes on an international level between the 15th and 19th of January.

The Australian Open title has been won 19 times by male tennis players from the Americas and 25 times by Pan American female tennis players. The current champions are the Spanish Rafael Nadal and the Australian Ashleigh Barty, who will not defend the crown after retiring last year.

These will be 26 males from  seven nations: ten from the United States, eight from Argentina -Between them Facundo Bagnis, gold at the Toronto 2015 Pan Americans,- three Canadians, one from Brazil, bolivia and Colombia, plus the Chileans Christian Garín and Nicolás Jarry.

For females, there will be 20 players and the distribution is reduced to only four countries: 16 from the United States, two Canadian, one Colombian and the Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, champion of the Lima 2019 Pan Americans.

Tennis at Santiago 2023 will be disputed on the new Centro Deportivo de las Raquetas, inside Parque Estadio Nacional, that is coming to replace the traditional Main Court.
