Santiago 2023 presents the sport calendar for the Pan American and Parapan American Games

The 61 Pan American disciplines and the 18 Paralympic disciplines already have defined dates for their competitions between October and November next year.

Thursday 14th, July, 2022.- The local organizing committee for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games presented during the day the sport calendar for both instances.

The program includes breaking, sport climbing and skateboarding, which will make their continental debut, adding up to the event that will be held for 17 days in its Pan American part, and 11 more in its Paralympic part.

“The urban sports that will make their debut in Santiago 2023 give the possibility for our youth to reach out in a different manner, and this is the reason we are ecstatic with their inclusion in the Games, that will show the Chilean audience the different sports in a never-before-seen manner,” said the Sports Minister and president of the Corporation, Alexandra Benado.

The Pan American Games will be held from October 20th through November 5th next year.  In the first week, apart from the Opening Ceremony, it is highlighted the presentation of 27 disciplines with some being basketball 3x3, boxing, swimming, rowing, marathon, and women’s soccer, among others.

In the following week, from October 23rd through the 29th, 16 more competitions will be held, highlighting men’s soccer, tennis, surf, women’s field hockey and sailing. In the last seven days of the Games, 25 disciplines will be held, with a special interest in Athletics track and field events.

AN EVENT WITH HIGH-COMPLEXITY COORDINATION

Santiago 2023 expects to welcome to Chile 6,909 Pan American athletes and 1,927 Paralympic athletes, which demands a complete coordination with the Pan American Confederations for each sport, the Olympic and Paralympic Committees for the 41 participating countries, and the collaboration of public and private entities to ensure perfect logistics.

“This has been a collaborative process between several organizations: Panam Sports, the International Paralympic Committee and the Pan American confederations have worked extensively to offer a sport calendar attractive for everyone, so we invite the people to follow-up with the sports they like the most,” indicated the CEO of the Games, Gianna Cunazza.

After the end of the Pan American Games, on November 5th, there will be a transition period up to the start of the Parapan American Games on Thursday, November 16th, starting with table tennis.  On the following day the Opening Ceremony will be held, completing the first week with the presentation of 13 disciplines, closing the period from November 20th through the 26th with the presentation of five more disciplines.
