As big as a soccer field: the canteen of Villa Santiago 2023 expects up to 5,000 athletes in a day

While the construction of the 1,355 apartments is already 90% complete, the temporary structures show evident progress, including the court area and the exclusive bus terminal for guests.

The Village of Santiago 2023 showed important advances this week, reaching 90% of progress in the building of its 17 towers. However, this is not the only good news as the temporary structural overlay also shows progress.

The athletes and para-athletes residential area during the Games requires key locations, among them the dining area, which is strategically located in front of the Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos and aligned with the area where the project for the junction that joins it with the Paseo Panamericano will be built.

It consists of two tents whose total area to be covered is 6,600 square meters, a space equivalent to a soccer field, making it the largest covered area of the Games. Its large size is related to the high demand of athletes, with more than 5,000 athletes expected for the peak days and providing services for all the staff as well. Another fact: the kitchen, where different gastronomic offers await them, measures 2,000 m2.

A MODERN TERMINAL

The strategic location of the dining area will also allow guests to be very close to the  Village's boarding and arrival areas. This is the Transport Mall, which will be used exclusively for the loading and unloading of athletes, Para-athletes, and technical officials.

This sector has been used as a parking lot for the Lollapalooza festival, which has hosted two editions of the event at the Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos. Its construction aims to build a temporary flexible pavement of 33 thousand square meters, a rainwater project and demarcation for eight lanes and about 200 parking spaces.

This work also includes accessibility ramps that will be operational during the Parapan American Games.
