The registering process for the Pan American and Parapan American Games Volunteering Program ended successfully with 28,702 people on May 14th. In this sense, 26% of them are foreigners coming from the five continents.
The Santiago 2023 Chief Executive Officer, Gianna Cunazza, explained what’s coming during the next weeks “the next step in this path will be the selection work in which we expect to form a final team of volunteers with nearly 17 thousand people. Those people will help us to achieve the objective related to providing the best possible experience to the athletes and Para athletes that will visit Chile.”
Peru is the country with the largest quantity of foreign collaborators with 1,888 people. It’s important to highlight people from other places of the American continent, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. One of the foreigners will be the Ghanan nurse Mac Anthony Tenkorang, “my motivation to deliver my help is to collaborate in first aid and know another culture,” he said.
In addition, 520 people declared living with an impairment, among them it’s possible to mention the Chilean Andrés Sarmiento, “an event like this is a way to show that sports are not limited to people capacities and it helps us to express ourselves in other ways through what each person likes,” he pointed out.
The Pan American Games will be celebrated for the first time in Chile from October 20th to November 5th and it’ll gather nearly 7 thousand athletes in four regions: Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, and Biobío. Then, it’ll be the turn of the Parapan American Games between November 17th and 26th and it’ll have the participation of 2 thousand Para athletes.
