Petrucio Ferreira, King of Speed at Santiago 2023

The Brazilian champion, who had broken the record in the qualifying round, won the gold medal in the T47 100 meters. This added his fifth Parapan American medal.

Saturday, November 25th, 2023.- Brazilian athlete Petrucio Ferreira, who had broken the Parapan American record in the T47 category (physical disability in upper limbs) for the 100 meters on Friday, secured the gold medal in the final at Santiago 2023 with a time of 10.34 seconds. 

"I am very happy to compete representing my country and stand on the top of the podium. It's difficult to describe the feelings when one wins running for Brazil. It is always a pride to represent my homeland and win medals," commented Ferreira. 

The winner added his fifth gold medal in continental competitions, as he had previously triumphed in the 100 and 200 meters at Toronto 2015, and in the 100 and 400 meters at Lima 2019. 

Ferreira also boasts four Paralympic medals in his career, three from Rio 2016 (gold in 100 meters, silver in 400 meters T45-46-47, and silver in the 4x100 relay T42-47) and one gold from Tokyo 2020 (100 meters T47). 

The second-place finish went to Washington Assis from Brazil (10.63), while the third spot and the bronze medal were claimed by Cuban athlete Raciel González (10.70).
