Alessandro da Silva Also Secures Gold in Shot Put F11

The Brazilian achieved a distance of 12.78 meters on his first attempt, although it wasn't enough to surpass his own record from Lima 2019. At Santiago 2023, he also won the discus throw.

Saturday, November 25th, 2023.- Alessandro Rodrigo da Silva, representing Brazil, secured the gold medal at Santiago 2023 in the male's shot put F11 category (visual impairment), held at the Centro Atlético Mario Rocordón of the Estadio Nacional. 

This marks his second victory at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, having celebrated a few days ago in the discus event. 

Among his notable sporting achievements, he represented Brazil at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympics, winning gold in the discus throw. He also competed in the F12 shot put, finishing in tenth place. 

He earned a gold medal in the F11 discus at the 2017 World Championships in London. Two years later in Dubai, he won gold in the discus and bronze in the shot put. 

Santiago 2023 also awarded the silver medal to Wilmer Zambrano from Venezuela, with a distance of 11.49 meters, while the bronze went to his compatriot Franklin Bracho, with a record of 11.37.
