Canada Shines with Two Gold Medals in Para Track Cycling

Mellisa Pemble and Alexandre Hayward won in the C1-3 individual pursuit 3,000 meters category.

Friday, November 24th, 2023.- Canada had a golden day in Para track cycling at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, held at the Peñalolén Velodrome.

In the C1-3 Female's 3,000 meters individual pursuit category, the winner was Canadian Mellisa Pemble, with a time of 4:10.103, setting a Parapan American record. She defeated American Jamie Whitmore, who clocked 4:10.212 in the final.

The bronze medal went to Colombian Paula Caballero, with a time of 4:14.851, surpassing Brazil's Sabrina da Silva, who finished in 4:22.490.

Following that, the male's C1-3 3,000 meters final took place, bringing joy for Canadian Alexandre Hayward, who set a Parapan American record with a time of 3:26.642. He defeated Colombian Alejandro Perea (3:32.491), who settled for silver.

The bronze went to Canada's Michael Sametz due to the non-participation of Colombian Esneider Muñoz.
