Argentina's Julia Riera Takes the Pan American Bronze Medal

Sunday, october 29nd, 2023.- In the first match of the Sunday session of Pan American Games tennis, Argentinian Julia Riera secured the first medal up for grabs: the bronze in female's singles.

On the court at the Central Court of the Estadio Nacional, ranked 157th in the WTA, she defeated Canada's Rebecca Marino, who is 166th in the world, with a score of 3-6, 6-4, and 6-1.

The experienced 32-year-old North American claimed the first set in 35 minutes, but the 21-year-old from Pergamino easily won the next two sets, which lasted 42 and 35 minutes, respectively.

This is the second Pan American medal for Riera, who also won bronze in the female's doubles on Saturday afternoon, along with María Lourdes Carlé, after defeating the Chilean pair of Alexa Guarachi and Fernanda Labraña with a double score of 6-3.

At 5:00 p.m. this Sunday, the female's category title will be decided between Brazilian Laura Pigossi (125th) and Argentine María Lourdes Carlé (146th).

Following that, Chilean Tomás Barrios (105th in the ATP rankings) will face off against Argentinian Facundo Díaz (109th) for the title in the male's category, closing out the tennis program of Santiago 2023.
