Rugby takes back Reñaca: 24 teams will play on the 35th version of the Seven in Viña

This friday will start the most important the clubs tournament of the country on the sport, with the participation of Chilean and Argentinian teams from Mackay school.

The rugby seven fans of our country will have their awaited start of the season. In a year marked by the historic participation of “Los Cóndores” in the world championship of the specialty, the Valparaíso region will host the start of the 2023 competitions.

This is because between Friday 13th and Sunday 15th of January, the traditional Rugby Seven DFSK from Viña del Mar will be contested. The venue of the 35th edition of this tournament, as always, will be The Mackay School from Reñaca, under the organization of the Old Mackayans Rugby Football Club.

Through this weekend, 24 rugby teams will get together to crown the first champion of the year, counting with 20 national teams, -between which we can find Old John’s from San Pedro de la Paz, current two-times champion,- apart from other four teams that will come from Argentina to compete for the crown.

The “qualy” will start with 2 teams coming from different regional tournaments in Chile on Friday 13th of January, and these will be divided into four groups of three teams each. The leader of each zone will get tickets to the main event.

Booth the main event and the playoffs of the competition will be contested between Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, under the groups modality, with four zones with four teams each. The two first in each group will be able to participate for the Gold and Silver cups, while the thirds and fourths must face each other for the Bronze and Incentive cups.

Rugby seven has been included in the Pan American Games since Guadalajara 2011 for males and Toronto 2015 for females. At Santiago 2023 it will take place between the 3rd and 4th of November at Estadio Municipal de La Pintana, in the southern area of the Chilean capital.
