Kristel Köbrich was awarded for the second time in a row as the best swimmer in Latin America

After an outstanding participation at the Asunción 2022 South American Games, the 37-year-old athlete was awarded by the specialized portal Swim Channel.

With over 20 years’ experience, the prominent Chilean swimmer Kristel Köbrich continues to receive acknowledgements on her record, this time at a continental level.

The national athlete, a safe bet from the host country facing Santiago 2023, was awarded by the specialized brazilian portal Swim Channel, as the best swimmer in Latin America during 2022.

After a vote performed among the community of the site, over 50% of the readers chose Köbrich, 37, as the best swimmer in her discipline for the region, being the second time in a row she received this award, the first being in 2021.

The swimmer’s season had several milestones, among them becoming the first person to compete in ten consecutive versions of the World Championships, the last one being Budapest, Hungary, last june.

In addition, the long-distance swimmer closed 2022 with a successful participation in the Asunción South American Games, winning the gold medal in the 1,500 meters, one of her specialties, and also two silver medals in 400 and 800 meters.

FIVE PAN AMERICAN MEDALS SINCE 2003

Throughout her career, Kristel Köbrich has won several medals in different competitions, and she hopes to continue winning through her participation in the Americas multi-sport festival.

At the Pan American Games level, the swimmer has won five medals:

Santo Domingo 2003: bronze in 800 m
Guadalajara 2011: gold in 800 m and bronze in 400 m
Toronto 2015: silver in 800 m
Lima 2019: silver in 1.500 m

Furthermore, in the South American Games she has won 18 medals in total, which are divided in eight gold, eight silver and two bronze. She also has participated in the Olympic Games, which includes in total five consecutive times, with her best place in London 2012, where she finished 14th in the general classification in 800m freestyle.

For this new year, the most important challenges for Köbrich will be her participation in the World Swimming Championship at Fukuoka, Japan, between July 14th and the 30th, and the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
