2022 was an amazing year for the Pan American and Parapan American Games!

Less than a year before the Pan American and Parapan American Games start, we reminisce about the best moments, milestones, and launches that we had before the biggest mega sports event in the history of Chile.

From January to December, different moments took place in Santiago 2023 where communities, athletes and para athletes, and the different countries of America were able to know about the work being carried out in preparation for the next Games.

Thus, we highlight the best of the year less than 365 days before living the Pan American and Parapan American Games Santiago 2023.

Inauguration of field hockey fields

For the first time in history, Chile will have public field hockey fields, inviting the entire community to use them in the new Parque Estadio Nacional in Ñuñoa. This is one of the constructions delivered by Santiago 2023 which enhances the sports legacy of the country and contemplates an investment of 7.5 million dollars, considering infrastructure, hazard, drainage, benches for substitutes, technical officials booths, video tower, electronic scoreboard, and lightning in two first level fields.

Celebration of 500 days to the Games

To commemorate this important milestone, Santiago 2023 invited the entire community to a free run held at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos. With a massive call, 2,023 runners ran inside one of the Games venues, a place that will also host athletes and para athletes in the great Pan American and Parapan American Village. This celebration contemplated the participation of families from the district, bringing the Games and sports closer.

Venues confirmation

The home for sports was an important moment for Santiago 2023. Thus, in June this year, we revealed the venues that will host the bests of America, outlining the regions of Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Biobío, and Metropolitan, considering an impact in almost 20 districts of the country. With a total of 41 precincts, countries are already preparing to know the new sports facilities in Chile.

Volunteer Program launch

With a goal of 17,000 volunteers, Santiago 2023 launches the program that seeks to contribute to the development of the Games and its force work. This important role contemplates the participation and compromise of young people and adults, highlighting their solidarity, capacity for dedication, and passion for being part of the biggest event in Chile.

Pictograms presentation

The visible face of the sports that will be present in this version of the Games also set a precedent before Santiago 2023. For this, we launched official pictograms of the event, standing out the unique illustrations based on the Andes Mountain Range, which give life and shape to the 60 Pan American and Parapan American disciplines.

Launch of the Education Program pilot

With the educational implementation in six districts of the country, considering regions where the Games will take place, the Education Program had its first pilots for 2023. This allowed students, along with teachers and education professionals to create sustainable development around sports, including education, inclusion, and school community topics, confirming the sports legacy in Chile.

The signing of important agreements

With the commitment to generate alliances that benefit the development of the Games, Santiago 2023 signed important agreements with sponsors, educational establishments, and municipalities. Thus, we emphasize the signing with Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE) and UNAB, in addition to receiving support from important brands such as PF, Antofagasta Minerals, Bornan, and Ottobock, closing the year with Municipalidad de La Pintana who made a commitment to our Corporation.

Countdown one year before the Games

Being 365 days away from the biggest event in Chile, we celebrate the countdown in three important milestones that gathered the community and the athletes and para athletes. First, we officially launched the countdown with two clocks installed in La Moneda, which were activated in presence of the President of the Republic. Then, we filled La Moneda with colors with a lightning show which took the best of Santiago 2023 to the citizens, to later finish with a big family festival at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos.

With the corporation’s commitment, support from Panam Sports, and the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC), Santiago 2023 is ready to party and receive the bests of the continent in a big sports festival that will leave its mark on the country.
