World Para Athletics will train in Santiago 25 international technical officials from 15 countries

The certification of staff from emerging countries, including Chile, seeks the continuous development of para sports around the world.

After the success of the training made for the national technical officials (NTOs) , the announcers from World Para Athletics, the federation that rules Para athletics world wide, continues working in Chile with a workshop for 25 international standard officials, looking for the necessary personnel to be present at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

The classes started this wednesday on the Antonio Varas campus of the Universidad Andrés Bello and will continue on thursday and friday on Universidad de las Américas in Providencia, gathering students from different parts of the world: Germany, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Island, Jamaica, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden and South Africa.

Additionally, thanks to the “Road to Santiago” program, the International Paralympic Committee and also boosted by the Parapan American Planification and Integration area from Santiago 2023, eight people coming from Colombia, Peru, Mexico, additional to the Chileans Evelyn Olivares and Sara Henríquez, received a scholarship.

“This is the legacy of the Santiago Games: Strengthen the region not only for this particular event, but also so in the future there are more educated professionals to organize their own competitions and with this reinforce the paralympic system from their own countries,” said in the opening José Cabo, senior manager of the Programs department of the International Paralympic Committee.

The Spanish added “next year we will also have a final event, where we will work as classifiers, judges in other sports and we hope to have, by the end of the program, around trained people in the Road to Santiago context, not only in Chile but in the region.”

The training cycle of these international technical officials will conclude this Saturday and Sunday with the implementation of their knowledge at the National Para Athletics Championship for adults and the young, that will take place on the athletics track of the school Colegio San Ignacio del Bosque, in Providencia.
