International Day of People with Disabilities: This is how the athletes of para archery prepare for Santiago 2023

On December 3rd, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly highlights this date that looks to promote inclusion, similar to how the Parapan American Games want to do it, an event that aims to go beyond and leave a ñegacy for the country in paralympic sports.

December, Friday 2nd - We have less than one year for the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, an event that gathers the best exponents of the paralympic sport. Because of this, on the International Day of People with Disabilities we talked about the preparation for this megaevent with two para athletes of para archery that will be in the most important multisport event of America. This is what they told us.

Diego Quesada - Costa rixan para archer

How do you feel one year away from Santiago 2023?

We have been making every possible effort to classify for Santiago 2023, I have hope in having the results we need and being present next year in this beautiful country.

What is your objective for the Games?

At an American level I’m well positioned and then, why not, competing for the gold medal in the Parapan American Games, what every athlete has as a goal. We need to have a good time and enjoy it  alot.

What do you like the most about your sport and what is the hardest part?

This sport is quite peculiar. When you are in the firing line your heart always tends to go faster, the jitters kick in and, since it is a sport of a lot of precision, things get quite complicated. Additionally, it is a beautiful sport that requires a lot of control so things can end in the best way possible.

What would you say to the people so they attend para archery in Santiago 2023?

The experience that we have had in this country has been very good. The people has been very kind, the food and everything that has been given to us here has been of an excellent quality and I invite you all so next year you can be present and see how you will feel like home.

Daniela Campos - Peruvian para archer

How do you feel one year away from Santiago 2023?

I think I have a lot of emotions at the same time, in my head now I’m calm and happy because I know that at least two of us already have a quota in our categories, and the only thing left is to keep learning more, training and go all in at Santiago 2023.

What is your objective for the Games?

My objective is to increase my ranking. I have been doing this little by little for the Nationals in Peru and, above everything, keep learning and possibly taking a medal back to my country.

What do you like the most about your sport and what is the hardest part?

What I like the most about archery is that I feel like I can make it. I tried other sports and because of my impairment it wasn't possible to perform in the best way, and I can do it on this one. I was explained a lot of things about the classification, I feel capable of doing it, very focused and excited.

What do you like the most about your sport and what is the hardest part?

I invite people to get to know this sport, it is wonderful and lasts a lot of days. Is one of the sports that keeps athletes focused for a lot of time, is something fun, with a lot of patience and I encourage you to keep an eye on Santiago 2023.
