Santiago 2023 will be the Pan American Games with the most Olympic qualifications in history

Through direct quotas, ranking or records, the event in Chile will have a total of 33 disciplines qualifying to Paris 2024.

Santiago 2023 will be the main prelude to the Paris Olympics 2024, considering that it will provide the largest number of seats for the five-ring event in the history of the Pan American Games. These will also be the Games that deliver the most tickets to France in the world.

This was reported by Panam Sports during its 60th General Assembly, held for the first time in Chile. Its president, Neven Ilic, emphasized that "these Games will be a historic event, they will have the largest number of participants ever seen with more than 6,900 athletes, and we will have a record number of qualifying disciplines for the Olympic Games."

The representative, also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), highlighted the relevance of Santiago 2023: "It will be the sporting event that will provide the most places for the Olympic Games in the world, there are many reasons why Santiago 2023 will set a milestone for Chilean sports," he said.

While, the Minister of Sport, Alexandra Benado, stated that "this will allow us not only to have opportunities for our athletes, but also to have the best representatives of the continent in our country.”

The executive director of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, Gianna Cunazza, commented that "this is a joint effort of several participants, Panam Sports, the Pan American confederations and the organizing committee, and this record number of qualifying places for the Olympic Games will bring together the most important athletes on the continent."

In addition, the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh), Miguel Ángel Mujica, said that "for all the athletes of the continent it will be a great opportunity, especially for Team Chile. They will have the chance to compete at home for a place in the Olympic Games surrounded by the love of their families and friends as extra motivation."

There will be 33 Pan American categories related to the qualification process to France, eight more than at Lima 2019, breaking the historical record. From these 33 disciplines, 21 award direct qualification quotas, and 12 score to achieve the necessary records .

Between October and November of next year, this mega sports event will bring together 7,000 conventional athletes and 2,000 para athletes from 41 countries of the continent, to compete in 39 Pan American and 17 Parapan American sports, with 61 and 18 disciplines, respectively.

15 OF 18 PARAPAN AMERICAN DISCIPLINES WILL ALLOCATE QUOTES TO PARIS 2024

The Parapan American Games, to be held after the Pan American competition, will have 15 disciplines that will award places to Paris 2024.

According to what was reported by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC), six sports will assign direct places: wheelchair, basketball, blind football, goalball, para table tennis, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis. While other nine competitions, so far, will score in a ranking considered to qualify.
