One of the novelties of the announced program is the inclusion of Sport Climbing, which also debuts at the next Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, scheduled for July and August 2021.
Felipe De Pablo, Executive Director of Santiago 2023 stated that: “It is an extremely robust and attractive sports program, reflecting tradition and new trends. We want to fill the sports venues, so that Chile feels proud of the event that we are going to offer. The sports program is one more step towards that goal ”.
Our country is characterized by its varied landscapes that do not leave anyone indifferent, and Santiago is a clear example that, just a few hours away, you can go from the mountains to the sea and from the city to the countryside.
This natural diversity is what allows different sports to be developed in our territory, which gives its own value to the organization of each of these events.
In the case of the Santiago 2023 edition, the proximity to the beaches of Viña del Mar, Valparaíso and Algarrobo allow sports such as beach volleyball, surfing and sailing; the hills of Santiago will host sports such as mountain biking; the lagoons of Los Andes and Curauma will receive Canoe; while the city of Santiago will host the majority of sports in venues and urban disciplines.
The natural landscapes will be the postcards of Santiago 2023, a backdrop for the practice of multiple sports. This will allow to have a great party with thousands of participants from different countries and cultures, a party that will bear the stamp of diversity and inclusion.
