DURING JANUARY, SUBTEL WORKED IN THE COORDINATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF HIGH SPEED NETWORKS FOR THE SEVERAL SPORTS VENUES OF THE EVENT THAT WILL WELCOME OVER 7.000 ATHLETES FROM ALL OVER THE AMERICAS.

Almost two months after starting the implementation of the 5G networks in Chile, a new milestone marks the progress of the fifth generation mobile internet tech.  For the first time the Pan American and Parapan American Games, that will be hosted in Santiago will have high speed networks with this technology.

The announcement was made this morning in the Central Coliseum of the National Stadium and it was held by the acting Sports Minister, Andrés Otero; the Telecom Subsecretary, Francisco Moreno; and the CEO of Santiago 2023, Felipe De Pablo.  The authorities emphasized the importance of having a robust digital infrastructure, in order to allow the optimal development of the communications of the largest international multi-sport event in the Americas.

Therefore, from the Chilean Telecom Sub secretariat (SUBTEL), along with the Santiago 2023 Corporation, a work group was executed during january in order to coordinate the implementation of the fibre optic and 5G coverage connectivity in the sports venues and sub-venues.  The aforementioned will also allow that the event offers access to this technology to over 1.500 accredited journalists that will cover the event and facilitating the communications between attendees and volunteers with 5G capable devices, including aiding the TV broadcasting and the athletes connectivity during their stay in the Pan American and Parapan American Village.

The acting Sports Minister, Andrés Otero, mentioned that “being the host and organizers of such Pan American and Parapan American Games is a huge challenge and we will always appreciate the work done together that allows that with everyone’s effort we can move forward with the event we hope to be the largest and most transcendent multi-sport event in our history. Behind every athlete there is always a family that is, and has been an important pillar in their careers development.  Many times the family members cannot travel with the athletes to their competitions and I am sure that this technology will help each athlete to feel closer to their family, because the support from the people we love is crucial”.

“Chile is the first country in the region to deploy 5G tech at a country level and today, again, telecoms are using cutting edge tech to connect our country.  We will be pioneers in covering with fifth generation mobile networks tech the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, which will allow the attendees and athletes to live first-hand the experience of the new high speed mobile networks”, highlighted the Subsecretary of Telecommunications, Francisco Moreno, who also mentioned that “this important digital deployment will allow to work in stadium security development, implement tech such as Big Data and Virtual Reality, as well as other innovations that without a doubt will offer important tools for the sports practice and their followers”.

On his part, Felipe De Pablo stated that “this is an announcement that reassures and brings us closer to this historical Games.  The audience that attends the event for example, will be able to share quality images and videos simultaneously to other attendees, something that in fact, could not be done in this coliseum due to data saturation.  This is the reason we highlight this huge tech progress that we are implementing with Subtel”.

In the activity two prominent athletes also participated, Felipe Peñaloza, national Cyclist that won three medals in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, and Macarena Cabrillana, Chilean tennis player, top 1 in the national level and twelfth in the world ranking for wheelchair tennis.
